Firestop seals are an excellent part of a system of fire protection measures. They fill the space in a wall through which cables, pipes or anything else pass into the next room or, more precisely, into the next fire compartment. However small these openings may be, fire and smoke can spread through them in the event of a fire. A firestop seal effectively prevents this spread, providing more time both for evacuating people and for putting out the fire and preventing greater material damage.
A firestop seal is not just an ordinary plug. It is made of a material containing graphite, and when a fire approaches and the surrounding temperature rises, the seal swells and increases in volume, effectively sealing any gap and preventing the fire from spreading, including burning through cables.
How long a seal can resist fire depends on the material and its fire resistance class. We install seals that last from thirty to one hundred and twenty minutes.
